Regulations

Amateur sports company Valle d’Aosta Trailers organizes the Tor des Châteaux (hereinafter for brevity TDC).

TRIAL

TDC is a foot race on the paved and dirt roads of the Aosta Valley, through 34 municipalities. Starting and finishing in the center of the city of Aosta, passing through castles, villages, historical sites, Roman roads, and finally along the Via Francigena, the race covers the entire valley, familiarizing runners with the region in a new way. Two routes are anticipated:

  • Tor des Châteaux 170 km
  • Tor des Châteaux 100 km

 

ROUTE

170km start: Friday, May 12, 2017, in Piazza Chanoux in Aosta at 8:00 pm

Maximum time: 36 hours

Finish: Piazza Chanoux in Aosta

100km start: Saturday, May 13, 2017, in Piazza Chanoux in Aosta at 10:00 am

Maximum time: 21 hours

Finish: Piazza Chanoux in Aosta

The route will be plotted with arrows, strips, and flashing lights.

170km time barriers:

Arvier (km 26.100):  4 hours after start

Charvensod (km 44.7):  8 hours from start

Pontey (km 69.200):  13 hours from start

Hône (km 95.200): 19 hours from start

Verres (km 116): 23 hours from start

Chatillon (km 134): 17 hours from start

Aosta (km 170): 35 hours from start

100km time barriers:

Arvier (km 26.100):  4 hours after start

Charvensod (km 44.7):  8 hours from start

Chatillon (km 73.800): 13 hours from start

Aosta (km 100): 20 hours from start

The route unwinds over road, dirt path, and trail. Runners are required to comply with traffic codes under penalty of disqualification (normal vehicular traffic will be present). The route officially measures 170 kilometers, and has been measured with GPS equipment.  

SERVICES

Approximately every 5/10 km along the route and at the finish line there will be points for the distribution of free refreshments.

COMPETITOR TRANSPORT

Runners who withdraw during the trial or do not arrive within the time barriers will be transported to Aosta by the Organization, where they will have access to showers, changing rooms, massages, and a relaxation room. Riders may withdraw only at the refreshment points and must communicate their intention to do so to the volunteers on site.

ASSISTANCE

The vehicles of accompanying persons must adhere to the following:  

  • No assistance vehicle up to Arvier (27 km from the start).
  • To avoid detriment and disturbance to the competitors resulting from exhaust fumes and road blockage, accompanying vehicles must not follow the competitors but wait for them along the route, at points of reference agreeable to them.
  • Personal assistance is only possible at the refreshment points, where assistance can be provided as well as changes of clothes, food, and drink.
  • It is prohibited for runners to get into vehicles in tow even just to rest or change, under penalty of disqualification.

DISQUALIFICATION

Runners caught leaving any material on the route and/or hitchhiking or accepting rides in cars, on motorcycles, or on bikes will be disqualified. Reports of infringement will be evaluated by Race Management. Organization controllers will be present on the route.

MATERIAL

By registering, every runner agrees to carry all obligatory materials listed below throughout the race, under penalty of disqualification:

  • ½ liter of water
  • two headlamps with spare batteries and red taillight
  • telephone
  • thermal blanket
  • windproof jacket
  • small supply of OTC medication

PARTICIPATION

All persons, men and women, of at least age 20 at the time of registration, Italian or foreign, may register to participate.

REGISTRATION

Registration is handled by 100x100trail.com, owned by VDA Trailers.

To access registration for the race, registration with the site is required.

Registration for one of the two TDC races can be done only on the internet, by filling out the form for the desired run in its entirety and no later than May 7, 2017.

Payment must be made upon registering via an online service with a Visa or Mastercard credit card. After payment is received and confirmed by BankPass, registration will be recorded as complete in the organization’s database.

170 km registration fees:

– up to February 15, 2017: €160.00

– from February 16 to April 15, 2017: €170.00

– from April 16 to May 7, 2017: €180.00

100 km registration fees:

– up to February 15, 2017: €90.00

– from February 16 to April 15, 2017: €100.00

– from April 16 to May 7, 2017: €110.00

The registration fee includes all the services described in the race regulations.

Runners may not register at bib pick-up or at the start of the race.

BIBS AND CHIPS

Bibs are handed out individually to each runner upon presentation of photo identification.

The bib must be worn on the chest or stomach and always be visible in its entirety throughout the race. It must therefore be placed over all clothing and in no case affixed to a bag or leg.

The CHIP is delivered along with the bib and must be put on the wrist.

Before the start, each runner must go through the entrance gates to the closed starting area to be recorded as present.

When passing a control point and when finishing the race, the runner must swipe the chip by the timing antenna to ensure that it is properly recorded.

GPS

Each runner will be given a GPS locator to be attached to his/her backpack or fanny pack which must be returned upon finishing. A deposit of €20.00 is required, which will not be refunded in case of failure to return the locator.

INSURANCE

The organization takes out a civil liability insurance policy throughout the competition.

The organization sees to the registration of all UISP (Italian Sports Union for All) members, if not already registered with other sports clubs, to ensure insurance protection for all runners. The cost of UISP membership is included in the registration fee.

Participation is the full responsibility of the competitors, who waive any recourse against the organizers in case of injury or other consequences arising after the race.

At the time of online registration, to complete the process, the runner must sign a liability waiver.

MEDICAL CERTIFICATE AND LIABILITY WAIVER

To register for the TDC, a medical certificate of fitness for participation in competitive sports and the signing of a liability waiver are required.

Each runner must upload the required documents to his/her personal registration form (www.100x100trail.com) no later than May 7, 2017.

In the event that the registered competitor fails to provide a medical certificate for sports competition and the waiver in time, s/he will not be able to take part in the competition.

Certificates and registrations will not be accepted at the start of the race.

ACCEPTANCE OF THE RACE REGULATIONS AND ETHICS

By participating in the Tor des Châteaux, runners accept without reservation these regulations as published by the organization.

The organization reserves the right to modify these regulations at any time for exceptional reasons.

AWARDS

Two absolute rankings (male and female) will be established, of which the first 10 finishers will be awarded.

All runners who cross the finish line will be given a participation prize.

IMAGE RIGHTS

Each competitor expressly waives the right to his/her image during the competition as well as any recourse against the organization and its qualified partners for the use of his/her image.
